Narayanganj is a successful businessman, the son of a Muslim noble family, a resident of Talla, Hajiganj, Narayanganj.  His father was a very good-natured man, a former chairman of a cooperative.  ​​Masuduzzaman Masud was already known and accepted as a social worker and sports fan. He is a kind-hearted, self-reliant man, helping people is his satisfaction.  This pro-BNP businessman is also a trusted political figure by the grassroots leaders and workers of the party. But trouble arose after he announced his nomination expectations for the BNP in the Narayanganj-5 constituency. Although he still has acceptance among the general public and trust in the grassroots, some party leaders are constantly criticizing Masuduzzaman. However, in recent times, he has taken a ‘tolerant’ stance instead of counterattacking his rivals even in the face of internal criticism and opposition from the party.

The local political circles see this as his ‘foresight’. Although there has been intense criticism and various campaigns surrounding Masuduzzaman since August last year, focusing on the party nomination, he has been dealing with everything silently. It is as if he has digested all poisons. His tolerant attitude has further advanced him in the political circles.

Masuduzzaman Masud, the head of one of the country’s business organizations, Model D Capital, has maintained his position in the business community for the past few decades. Masuduzzaman, who grew up in a BNP family, was active in Jubo Dal politics at a young age. He served as the president of a ward committee in the city. Although he later focused on business, he did not forget his responsibility to the people of the society and the party leaders and workers.

Masuduzzaman, a successful businessman in the clothing sector, has played a special role in the field of education as well as sports. He was always by the side of the poor people of the society. The city residents also remember his special cooperation during the Corona period. In addition, he has regularly provided financial support to mosques, temples, madrasas and educational institutions. Masud stood by the families of the victims of the explosion at Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in Sadar Upazila and also arranged employment for them and their family members. During the Sharad Durgot festival, all the puja mandap of Sadar and Bandar and Hindus received Masuduzzaman’s cooperation.

He has played a role not only in social service but also in the political arena. During the last one and a half decade of the Awami League government, Masuduzzaman Masud became the trust of many BNP leaders and activists. In the last one and a half decade, false cases were filed against thousands of leaders and activists. He also assisted in handling these cases. In the business arena, he was a shield in front of the BNP-style businessmen.

Masuduzzaman stood by the students and the public during the mass uprising in July-August last year. At that time, a large section of the businessmen played a silent role to avoid the wrath of the Awami League government, but he maintained contact with the students and the public at risk, and provided all kinds of cooperation. For this reason, Masud was also under the surveillance of the Awami League government’s intelligence forces. If Sheikh Hasina had not fallen in the face of the mass uprising on August 5, he would have gone to jail.

Masuduzzaman Masud has also received rewards for contributing to every aspect of society in the past. Just as the people of Narayanganj have highlighted his contribution in various rituals and ceremonies, the party leaders and workers have not forgotten it. But he has to face some BNP leaders. And this criticism has increased since he publicly stated his party nomination expectations for the Narayanganj-5 constituency. All those who are ahead in the criticism expect party nomination in the constituency.

However, Masuduzzaman’s supporters say that he is doing his job without reacting to these criticisms. He has shown political foresight by ensuring the presence of all the top leaders of the district and metropolitan committees, along with the central leaders, at the party membership induction ceremony, putting aside the differences. Even then, despite attempts to harass him almost constantly with words, he has not made any adverse comments on this issue, but has called for unity. Despite the intense political attacks surrounding the nomination, he has extended a hand of cooperation without counterattacking against his rivals.

At a recent event, Masuduzzaman Masud said, “We do not want to commit filth and break party discipline. But some are breaking party discipline. You should investigate on the ground and bring all those people under punishment. If I also break party discipline, I will also be punished. I request all the leaders of the nationalist parties not to get involved in verbal disputes in any way. Respond with time and your actions.”

Masuduzzaman Masud said, “We want to do new style politics. We do not want to use any kind of party position for personal gain. We have seen that the price that the people of Narayanganj paid for their sacrifice in July-August cannot be forgotten. There will be many attempts to spread propaganda, but do not listen to it. Whether I get the nomination or not, I will always be by your side.

Masuduzzaman said, “We dream of a new Narayanganj. We have plans for the development of the port and the city. We want to work realistically to solve these problems – education, drugs, terrorism, extortion. If we get the opportunity, we will work together for human welfare.”

He called for practicing the politics of coexistence in Narayanganj city and said, “We want to live in peace.”

Masuduzzaman Masud’s tolerant and responsible attitude has not only earned him recognition in the political circles, but has also increased his trust among the common people and party leaders and workers. Amidst the controversy and criticism over his nomination, he has proven that effective leadership does not mean just using a loud voice or power, but rather gaining the trust of the people through a strong vision, restraint and unity. Through coordination and coexistence with the people of Narayanganj and party leaders and workers, Masuduzzaman has shown that new-style politics is not just about competition, but about a promise of the welfare of all. Political analysts believe that Masuduzzaman is strengthening his political position by keeping his ‘image clean’ without getting involved in the politics of mudslinging.
